WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you have been given a citation by the police, it will have a date listed on the bottom for your Arraignment. Make sure to go to Court. Plead NOT GUILTY. The Court will make decisions in the following areas: Whether
a No Contact Order will be issued, whether you will be release pending trial - and if so what conditions will be imposed, whether you will be appointed a public defender, and the date of your next hearing.
-
Talk to an attorney as soon as possible.
-
Do not violate the No Contact Order. Remember, no contact means "NO CONTACT."
-
Ask the Court about a "Civil Standby" so that you can get clothes and personal items from your home.
-
Make a list of any witnesses that saw or heard what happened. Get this list to your lawyer as soon as possible.
